Queer as Folk

I saw an advert for 4OD the other night saying that Queer as Folk and some other things were now on there, so the last couple of nights I've been watching it through again. I hadn't seen it for 12 years and I'd forgotten how guffaw out loud funny it was! It truly was a work of genius, and some great dance tracks in there too which take me back to a really cool time. And I remembered how I had fallen about over Aidan Gillen, the most beautiful man to ever walk on the earth. It was like every lighting setup was created just for his incredible face, and the way he used those eyes and the curl of his lip. He was intoxicating. I never noticed the name of the writer 12 years ago, Russel T Davies, so when Doctor Who came back it didn't register with me that it was the same chap (until Emma told me), but of course, the character Vince was a Doctor Who anorak - just one of the special little quirks of the instantly lovable characters that made it so watchable. Just one series and an additional two episodes and it was almost perfect.

lol, fab writing, shame RTD dithered a little in the later years of his stint on DW...speaking of, the first half finale is tonight...then we have to wait until Sep for the rest of the season...boo. But WHO is Riversong?

Hmm. This really should be a good episode then, but I think maybe we were spoiled a bit with the first two of the series. I will watch and hope.

We've discussed the downward slope of DW (in our opinions) over the last couple of series with RTD many times, and it still surprises me. It was such a great start, for a good couple of series at least. And QAF showed how cutting edge he could be, and really genuinely funny, so the spiral into childishness really wasn't expected. I suppose we all have different facets to our personalities, and one of his is that he's a bit of a kid still too.

Oh good god, I just found the American version. It might just be the most wooden, most awkward and unfunny thing I have ever seen, played by the most wooden, most awkward and unfunny actors I have ever seen. Really dreadful. And not cool in any way. The reason Stuart was sexy was because he was funny, petulant and as cool as fuck. I think the people who recreated it missed the point. Opinion please Emma!

I haven't watched the US version in a long time but I think I was rather unimpressed. Like many re imaginings it does appear to have forgotten to be...well, imaginative going instead for the usual relationship gumpf many US shows follow in terms of story. I hear you about the comedy aspect, again US have a whole different take on what is funny and considering the series went on for much longer than the British version I guess the popularity remains over there...it was I suppose daring by US standards in terms of same sex relationships...but in the end it's quality not quantity and the British QAF had plenty of that.

We need to organise a DVD night again soon...yours or mine and when? text me somewhen
